The story of
Marie Zitnansky
M.J. Zitnansky was born in Czechoslovakia, where she spent her early years before being forced to leave her homeland due to the Soviet invasion in 1968. Seeking a new life, she emigrated to Canada with her husband, Frank, and their young son.
Frank, a dedicated general practitioner, soon established his medical practice in Etobicoke, Ontario, where he became beloved by his patients and the community. Marie, supporting her husband both at home and professionally, worked as his secretary in his medical office, playing a vital role in the smooth running of the practice.
Marie and Frank built a life together in Canada, raising three children and later becoming proud grandparents to five grandchildren. Throughout the years, Marie’s life was shaped by both the challenges of adapting to a new country and the joy of a growing family. However, her world was forever changed when Frank passed away in 2007. His death marked a profound loss, and Marie’s journey through grief and healing is captured in her poignant collection of poetry, Sleepless Nights. The poems reflect not only the pain of losing a lifelong partner but also the deep love and memories they shared and the hope for eventual peace and acceptance.
In her later years, Marie has found solace in writing, using poetry as a means of expression and reflection on the complexities of love, loss, and the passage of time. Her works, particularly Sleepless Nights, offer a deeply personal look into her heart and mind, inviting readers and listeners to connect with the universal experiences of sorrow, remembrance, and the healing that follows in the wake of loss.
